Bukmah Dawuda “Empire”, an NDC Upper West Regional Organizer hopeful, has called on leaders in the Upper West Region to prioritise youth development through sports by creating opportunities for young talents to reach their full potential.

He made the call after organising a friendly football match between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the McCoy Astro Turf.

The match, which was organised to promote political unity and peaceful coexistence through sports, ended 4–2 in favour of the NDC team.

Speaking to participants after the match, Mr. Dawuda said he was impressed by the footballing talents displayed by the young players and stressed the need for deliberate efforts to identify, nurture and promote such talents.

He said the region could produce footballers capable of competing at the highest level if the right opportunities and support were provided.

“I saw the youth exhibiting their talents. What I was thinking is how we will nurture these talents to benefit the Upper West Region and the entire nation at large.”

Mr. Dawuda said the quality of football displayed by the players demonstrated that the region had considerable sporting potential.

“The talent I saw here, if we take them to Kumasi or Accra, no team can beat them. However, why are there no opportunities for them?”

He therefore urged leaders in the Upper West Region to invest more attention and resources in sports development, particularly at the grassroots level.

Mr. Dawuda said developing young talents through sports could provide them with opportunities to build careers while also contributing to the development and promotion of the Upper West Region.
