MTN Ghana has donated GH¢20,000 in cash to the Waala Traditional Council to support the celebration of the 2026 Dumba Festival.
The donation, presented on behalf of MTN Ghana by Simon Amoh, Senior Manager, Regional Sales – North, also included airtime worth GH¢1,000, drinks and water to support the festivities.
Speaking during the presentation, the North Area Sales Manager, Richard Asamane said MTN Ghana was honoured to support the Waala Traditional Area in celebrating a festival that promotes the history, culture and identity of the Waala people.
He described Dumba as a celebration of heritage, unity and thanksgiving, noting that the festival strengthens community bonds while providing an opportunity to showcase Waala culture to Ghana and the international community.
According to him, the values associated with Dumba align with MTN Ghana’s commitment to supporting communities and promoting initiatives that contribute to cultural preservation, tourism, economic activity and community development.
“Beyond providing telecommunications and digital services, we remain committed to being a force for good. Supporting traditional festivals is part of that commitment,” he said.
Mr Asamane noted that as MTN Ghana marks 30 years of service, the company recognises the important role communities such as Wa have played in its journey.
He said the company’s support for the festival was therefore not limited to the financial contribution, adding that MTN experience centres would be available at key locations during the festival to assist customers and provide support.
He further said the festival would provide MTN with an opportunity to engage with customers, listen to their needs and strengthen its relationship with the community.
Mr Amoh expressed the hope that MTN’s contribution would help make the 2026 Dumba Festival memorable and successful.
Receiving the support, Boli Kori Naa, Dr Issahaque Mumuni expressed gratitude, saying every contribution helps to ease the pressure associated with organising the event.
He said the latest support had brought significant relief to the organisers, particularly in catering for the numerous people expected from various towns and communities.
“Every token helps a lot. Once this has come, our burden and the pressure has reduced.”
Dr Mumuni added that the support had also brought relief to him personally whenever he reported to the office, given the financial demands involved in accommodating and catering for visitors.
He expressed appreciation to the donor for the gesture, saying the support would go a long way in helping the organisers successfully host the celebration.
