The Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Issah Nura Danwanaa, has called for increased community participation in security efforts to help address the growing security challenges in the Wa Municipality.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Kangyiri Radio, he said the number of security personnel in the municipality has declined over the years, partly due to the transfer of personnel to other parts of the region and country.
His comments come days after the Wa Municipal Assembly passed out 17 newly trained city guards to support security and law enforcement efforts within the municipality.
According to him, the reduction in personnel has affected police patrols and surveillance within the municipality, contributing to an increase in crime.
“The number of security personnel in the Wa Municipality has declined over the years, with several personnel transferred to other parts of the region and the country. This has resulted in reduced police patrols and surveillance, contributing to an increase in crime,” he stated.
Alhaji Danwanaa noted that the limited number of security personnel also means the Wa Municipality can be left with inadequate security presence when personnel are deployed to respond to incidents in other districts.
“The limited number of police personnel also means that the municipality is sometimes left with inadequate security whenever personnel are deployed to address security challenges in other districts,” he added.
He therefore stressed the need for stronger collaboration between security agencies and residents, saying community participation is essential to complement the efforts of security personnel in maintaining peace and security in the municipality.
