The Member of Parliament for the Wa West Constituency, Peter Lanchene Toobu, has honoured Alberta Mumaah, the sole gold medalist from the Upper West Region at the 2026 National Basic Schools Sports Competition.

Alberta Mumaah, a pupil of Samambo JHS in the Wa West District, won gold in the javelin throw at the national competition.

Mr Toobu said he honoured the young athlete in the presence of basic school pupils in Wechiau, the district capital, to recognise her achievement and encourage her to pursue her sporting potential.

According to the MP, the support package for Alberta includes two new javelins to aid her training and development in the sport.

He also pledged to support her continued development in javelin in accordance with professional coaching guidelines.

In addition, the MP presented her with GH¢2,000 in cash to meet her immediate needs.

Mr Toobu further made a commitment to absorb Alberta’s educational expenses from her current JHS 1 level through to tertiary education, as part of efforts to support both her academic and sporting development.

The MP called on residents and well-wishers to congratulate Alberta Mumaah for her achievement and encourage her to continue developing her talent.

Her gold medal makes her the only athlete from the Upper West Region to win gold at the 2026 National Basic Schools Sports Competition, according to the MP.
