The Wa East District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Adamu Sayibu, has disclosed that the district has inherited about 43 abandoned projects initiated under the Northern Development Authority (NDA), alongside four abandoned Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) projects.
According to the DCE, the abandoned projects are part of a wider infrastructure challenge affecting several communities in the Wa East District, particularly in the education sector.
Speaking during the handover of a completed six-unit classroom block to the Jeyiri community, Hon. Sayibu said many schools in the district had not received the needed renovation and infrastructure improvements over the past eight years.
He said the NDA projects were started in 2018 but were left incomplete, resulting in several unfinished facilities across the district.
“When we took over power, we realised that for the past eight years, most of our schools have not been renovated. There have been a number of abandoned projects across the country, especially in the Wa East District.”
Hon. Sayibu noted that the district had identified about 43 abandoned NDA projects, as well as four GETFund projects that had also been left incomplete.
He said the Assembly was assessing the abandoned projects with the aim of completing critical ones to ensure that public resources already invested in them are not wasted and that communities can benefit from the facilities.
