Wa MCE Reaffirms Government’s Commitment as Feed Ghana Free Fertilizer Reaches Farmers

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Wa, Alhaji Issah Nura Danwanaa, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting farmers through the Feed Ghana Programme, describing the distribution of free fertilizer as evidence of President John Dramani Mahama’s resolve to fulfil his campaign promises to the agricultural sector.

Addressing registered peasant farmers during the rollout of free fertilizer under the government’s flagship Feed Ghana Programme in the Wa Municipality, Alhaji Danwanaa said the initiative demonstrates the government’s determination to improve agricultural productivity and enhance food security across the country.

He noted that President Mahama had pledged to provide free fertilizer to farmers upon assuming office and to implement the Feed Ghana Programme to boost agricultural production.

“Today is another day on which we can all celebrate because the promises of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama are being fulfilled. He promised farmers across Ghana that he would ensure the distribution of free fertilizer and introduce the Feed Ghana Programme, and today that promise is becoming a reality,” he said.

The MCE explained that the registered peasant farmers were among the first beneficiaries because of their organised structure, which enables government interventions to reach them efficiently.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Food and Agriculture and President Mahama, Alhaji Danwanaa encouraged the farmers to make good use of the fertilizer to increase food production and improve their livelihoods.

He disclosed that the first consignment comprises 1,000 bags of fertilizer, adding that more supplies are expected in the coming weeks to ensure all registered farmers under the programme benefit.

According to him, the Feed Ghana Programme remains one of the government’s flagship interventions aimed at reducing the cost of farming, increasing crop yields, and strengthening Ghana’s food security through sustained support for smallholder farmers.
