The Personal Assistant to the Chief of Duosi in the Wa West District, Musah Kala, has appealed to the government to address the community’s longstanding developmental challenges, particularly the lack of electricity, poor road infrastructure and limited access to agricultural support.
Speaking in an interview with Kangyiri Radio 99.1 FM, Mr. Kala described the absence of electricity as one of the community’s biggest setbacks, saying residents have appealed for power supply for many years without success.
According to him, the lack of electricity has negatively affected livelihoods and slowed the community’s development.
“There is no electricity in the community. We have been appealing for electricity for so many years. The lack of electricity is affecting us in diverse ways because we cannot engage in economic ventures,” he said.
He explained that the absence of electricity has made it difficult for residents to establish businesses that depend on power, thereby limiting employment opportunities and local economic growth.
Mr. Kala also expressed concern over the deplorable state of the road linking the community to neighbouring areas. He disclosed that although a non-governmental organisation (NGO) initiated rehabilitation works on the road and engaged some community members as labourers, the project has stalled.
He further alleged that some of the residents who worked on the project are yet to receive payment for their services.
“The NGO employed some of us to work on the road, but the project has stalled and some of us have not even been paid,” he stated.
On agriculture, Mr. Kala noted that farmers in Duosi continue to face difficulties accessing tractor services during the farming season, a situation he said affects timely land preparation and crop production.
He appealed for improved access to mechanised farming services and fertilizer to enhance agricultural productivity.
According to him, making tractor services readily available and ensuring farmers have access to fertilizer would significantly improve farming activities and increase food production in the community.
Mr. Kala appealed to the government, development partners and other stakeholders to prioritise the needs of Duosi by extending electricity to the community, completing the road project and improving agricultural support for farmers.
