Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the Wa Central Constituency in the Upper West Regiona, Osuman Abdul Hamid, says one of the major achievements of his leadership was facilitating the promotion of more than 400 teachers who had faced delays in their career progression.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Kangyiri Radio’s morning show dubbed “Kangyiri Ansuma, Mr. Hamid said his experience as a professional teacher enabled him to appreciate the frustrations many educators endure in securing promotions.
“I am a teacher by profession, and we all understand the challenges teachers face in gaining promotions. Personally, I experienced setbacks when I became eligible for promotion to Assistant Director II and later Assistant Director I,” he said.
Mr. Hamid explained that after assuming office, he and his team worked to address the concerns of affected teachers by compiling the names of those who had qualified for promotion but had not been advanced.
“During our tenure, we worked diligently to change that situation. We compiled the names of more than 400 teachers and ensured they received the promotions they were due, from Principal Superintendent through Assistant Director II, Assistant Director I, and even up to Director level,” he stated.
According to the former constituency chairman, the intervention enabled many teachers to progress in their careers, with several ultimately attaining the rank of Director.
“Many teachers benefited from the initiative, with several attaining director positions. We changed the narrative in the Wa Central Constituency by helping teachers receive the recognition and career progression they had long deserved,” Mr. Hamid added.
The former Wa Central NPP Chairman made the remarks while reflecting on his tenure in office and what he described as practical interventions aimed at improving the welfare of professionals within the constituency.
