Abdul-Aziz “White” Retains NPP Upper West Chairmanship

The incumbent Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper West Region, Abdul-Aziz Abdul-Rahaman, has been retained as chairman following the party’s regional executive elections held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

The elections took place at the Assembly Hall of the Wa Technical Institute, where 260 delegates from constituencies across the region gathered to elect regional executives to steer the affairs of the party.

Abdul-Aziz Abdul-Rahaman secured 173 votes to defeat his main contender, the immediate past Regional Organizer, Alhassan Kanton Alaska Braimah Nala, who polled 86 votes.

In the Women’s Organizer race, Minata Moomen emerged victorious with 139 votes, defeating Nancy Ayuo Dery, who obtained 116 votes.

The Communications Director position was also retained by Ahmed Nana Sadat, who secured 185 votes against his predecessor and sole contender, Ali Bukari, who polled 74 votes.

The incumbent Nasara Coordinator, Mohammed Muniru Ali, retained his position after receiving 179 votes, defeating Hudu Abdul Jalilu, who obtained 80 votes.

Yussif Alhassan won the Assistant Secretary position with 200 votes, beating Suleman Benin, who secured 59 votes.

One of the notable outcomes of the election was the Youth Organizer contest, where Dodoo Yussif Sadat finally secured victory after contesting the position on three previous occasions.

Dodoo Yussif Sadat polled 158 votes to win the position. Insah Haki followed with 71 votes, while Suleman Yahaya and Amidu Reedwan obtained 17 and 13 votes respectively.

The position of Regional Organizer went to the immediate past Youth Organizer, Mohammed Hamid Saana, who polled 138 votes.

He defeated former Regional Organizer Mustapha Ibrahim Dimah, who obtained 75 votes. Adama Amadu and Seidu Issahaku Sulemana secured 22 and 23 votes respectively.

Alhassan Suleman retained the Regional Treasurer position with 160 votes, defeating James Saatiri, who polled 99 votes.

The Regional Secretary position was also retained by Dr. Tanko Daniel Dawda, a lecturer at the University for Development Studies, who secured 186 votes.

Dr. Tanko Daniel Dawda defeated Dr. Agape Kangyiri Danwah, who polled 64 votes, and Dawuda Kaleo Salia, who obtained nine votes.

In the Second Vice Chairman contest, Philip Yaw Braimah emerged victorious with 166 votes, defeating former Wa East Constituency Communications Director, Wongtina Bamutu, who secured 91 votes.

The First Vice Chairman position went to Majeed Liman, who polled 198 votes to defeat former Wa Central Constituency Chairman, Ali Karim Kamara, who obtained 35 votes.

The results have produced a mixture of retained executives and new faces, with several incumbent office holders maintaining their positions while some prominent contenders lost their bids.
