Residents of Bayaru in the Nanville Electoral Area of the Nadowli-Kaleo District have appealed to the government to create employment opportunities for the youth to reduce the need to travel to southern Ghana in search of jobs.

In an interview with Kangyiri Radio 99.1FM, the residents said many young people in the community were struggling to find jobs and were seeking opportunities to earn a living without leaving their families and communities.

They called for the establishment of irrigation dams to enable the youth to engage in dry-season farming, which they believe could provide a sustainable source of income and improve livelihoods in the community.

According to the residents, access to irrigation facilities would allow young people to cultivate crops throughout the year, rather than depending solely on the rainy season for farming activities.

They are therefore urging the government and other relevant stakeholders to prioritise employment-generating interventions, particularly irrigation infrastructure, to empower the youth and reduce rural-to-urban migration in search of jobs.

“Our youth are also crying for jobs. They want employable opportunities to stop traveling down south in search of jobs. We are therefore appealing to the government to provide employable opportunities like irrigation dam for the youth to engage in dry season farming.”
