Children in Guseh community in the Wa West District of the Ipper West are forced to walk about 14 kilometers every day to Bianya to attend primary education due to the absence of a primary school in their community.
This, according to residents, is affecting school attendance and increasing dropout rates.
Speaking on Kangyiri Radio, a resident, Sanmaala Hadii said many children become exhausted after the long journey and eventually stop going to school.
“Because we don’t have a school, our children move from Guseh to Bianya every day. Some become tired and stop going to school.”
He said the community has nearly completed a kindergarten block with support from the Member of Parliament but lacks desks and chairs.
“The KG block is almost completed, but we still need desks and chairs.”
Mr. Hadii appealed to government and development partners to provide a primary school to improve access to education.
