A new commercial radio station, Kangyiri Radio 99.1FM, has begun test transmission in Wa in the Upper West Region as it prepares to commence full-scale broadcasting aimed at promoting community development and public engagement.

The station is expected to serve residents of Wa and surrounding communities with hyper-local news, relevant information and entertainment tailored to the needs of its audience.

Management says the initiative is designed to create a strong platform for community dialogue while amplifying the voices of the people.

One of the key features of Kangyiri Radio is its commitment to broadcasting in local languages including Waali, Dagaare and Sissali, ensuring that important information reaches listeners in languages that resonate with their daily lives and cultural identity.

Beyond news delivery, the station plans to air practical life-hack segments focusing on areas such as health, agriculture and general wellbeing. These segments are expected to provide useful knowledge that will help residents improve their livelihoods and make informed decisions.

Kangyiri Radio also intends to maintain strong interaction with its audience through social media platforms and WhatsApp engagement, allowing listeners to share opinions, contribute to discussions and participate in conversations on issues affecting their communities.

As part of its programming strategy, the station will organize community-driven events, sponsored programs and listener clubs, creating opportunities for residents to actively participate in development-oriented initiatives.

Located on Andorra Street at Kpaguri in Wa, the station operates from premises identified by the GPS address UX-0211-5267.

Management has encouraged residents, organizations and businesses to tune in during the ongoing test transmission phase and provide feedback that will help shape the station’s programming ahead of its official launch.

With its community-centered focus and commitment to local language broadcasting, Kangyiri Radio 99.1FM aims to position itself as “Your Voice, Your Community, Your Partner in Development.”
