The Member of Parliament for Wa West, Hon. Peter Lanchene Toobu, has appealed to residents of Kendeu, Lassia Tuolu and bakpaateng communities to embrace peace and allow state institutions to investigate the recent conflict that claimed lives and destroyed property.
Toobu made the appeal while addressing a press conference in Wa on Thursday, 30 July 2026, urging the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, making inflammatory comments, and engaging in hate speech that could worsen the situation.
“I urge all citizens to refrain from spreading unverified information, inflammatory comments, or hate speech, whether in public or on social media. At a time like this, rumors can be just as dangerous as weapons. Let us all commit to speaking responsibly and allow the relevant state institutions to establish the facts,” Toobu said.
The Wa West MP called on the Ghana Police Service and other relevant state institutions to continue their investigations professionally and impartially.
He also urged the Office of the Attorney General and Minister for Justice to ensure the fair, impartial and expeditious prosecution of all cases arising from the Kendeu-Lassia-Tuolu Bakpaateng conflict.
“Justice must be done for every victim of this conflict, and every allegation, including the circumstances surrounding the death of Abu Tijani while in police custody, must be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the laws of Ghana,” he stated.
Hon. Toobu further encouraged the two factions to return to the mediation table under the leadership of the Chairman of the Regional Security Council, stressing that dialogue remains the only path to lasting peace.
“We cannot shoot our way to peace; we can only talk our way to peace. Sustainable peace can only be achieved through sincere dialogue, compromise, mutual respect and reconciliation,” he emphasized.
He also appealed to the people of Lassia- Tuolu, Kendeu, Wechiau and surrounding communities to cooperate with security agencies and reject all forms of reprisal attacks, stressing that peace cannot thrive where revenge prevails.
