The Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Issah Nura Danwanaa, says the 17 newly inducted city guards have received comprehensive training to enable them to effectively support security and traffic management in the Wa Municipality.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Kangyiri Radio during the outdooring of the city guards, Alhaji Danwanaa said the guards received military training as well as specialised training from the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), the National Road Safety Authority and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).
He explained that their primary mandate is to support general security and ensure the safety of residents within the municipality.
According to him, the city guards will work closely with the Ghana Police Service and report to the police in the performance of their duties.
Alhaji Danwanaa also said the city guards would help address congestion in the central business areas of Wa, particularly around the market.
He noted that although there is adequate space within the market, some traders continue to occupy the roadsides, contributing to congestion.
He therefore expressed confidence that the deployment of the city guards would help decongest the town and improve order within the municipality.
“The city guards have received adequate training. In addition to military training, they have been trained by the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), the National Road Safety Authority and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) on how to effectively perform their duties,” the MCE said.
“Their main mandate is to support general security and ensure the safety of the municipality. They will work closely with the police and report to them. The town is congested, and the city guards will help to decongest it. There is enough space in the market, but everyone wants to operate along the roadside.”
