The Wa Municipal Assembly is set to privatise aspects of waste collection in the municipality as part of efforts to improve sanitation and address challenges associated with refuse containers.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Issah Nura Danwanaa, disclosed this in an exclusive interview with Kangyiri Radio, saying the initiative is expected to make issues relating to the availability of waste containers a thing of the past.
According to him, the Assembly has already started the initiative with two tricycles, while private individuals have expressed their commitment to provide more than 20 additional tricycles to support waste collection in the municipality.
Alhaji Danwanaa said involving private individuals in waste collection would not only create business opportunities but also contribute to keeping the city clean.
He encouraged residents and private individuals to participate in the initiative, stressing that those who engage in waste collection as a business would simultaneously be contributing to improved sanitation in the municipality.
“We are privatising aspects of waste collection. Issues relating to the availability of containers will soon be a thing of the past. We have started with two tricycles, and some private individuals have also promised to provide more than 20 tricycles to help clear the city of waste. Once you are engaged in this business and earning an income, you are also helping to keep the city clean,” he said.
