NDC Upper West Regional Organiser hopeful, Bukmah Dawuda, also known as “Empire” has supported an accident victim from Jirapa, Amos Doma, with GH¢1,500 after he spent seven additional days at the hospital because he could not afford to settle his medical bill.
Mr. Doma was knocked down by a vehicle while travelling from Danyawkuraa to Jirapa and was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to him, he was medically discharged after three days but remained at the hospital for another seven days because he could not raise money to pay his bill.
“I was discharged by the hospital after three days, but I spent seven more days because I couldn’t clear my bills,” Mr. Doma said.
He explained that he met some familiar faces at the hospital and asked them to inform his relatives about his situation, but he was uncertain whether the information reached his family.
“I met familiar faces at the hospital and I asked them to inform my people, but I don’t know if the message was carried across,” he said.
Mr. Doma’s plight came to the attention of Haruna Jibril, who was at the hospital visiting a sick relative. Mr. Jibril said he found the accident victim in a desperate condition and decided to use his Facebook page to appeal for support.
“I was at the hospital to visit a sick relative and I saw him. He was virtually seen hopeless and he only ate leftover food from other patients,” Mr. Jibril said.
He said the situation compelled him to seek assistance for Mr. Doma through social media.
“So I decided to use my Facebook page to advocate for support to help him out of the situation,” he added.
Following the appeal, Mr. Bukmah Dawuda provided Mr. Doma with GH¢1,500 to enable him settle his hospital bill and cater for himself after returning home.
Speaking on behalf of Mr. Dawuda, Abdul Rashid Abu said the NDC Upper West Regional Organiser hopeful asked them to visit the victim at the hospital and assess his situation.
“He called us to visit him at the hospital and see what the situation was and pay the bill for our brother who was admitted for days but couldn’t pay his bills for him to go home,” Abdul Rashid Abu said.
Mr. Doma used GH¢700 from the GH¢1,500 to settle his hospital bill, leaving GH¢800 to support his basic needs after returning home.
He has since been discharged from the hospital and returned home following the intervention.
