NPP Wa Central Constituency Communications Director, Hon. Fatawu Yussif, has criticised the government over its decision to rebrand the 24-Hour Economy Markets programme as District Economy Markets, describing the move as evidence of poor planning.

According to him, churches, courts and schools in some districts have been demolished to make way for the construction of the proposed markets.

He questioned the rationale behind demolishing these public infrastructure facilities for markets that are yet to be constructed, only for the government to subsequently change the name of the programme.

“The NDC simply does not know what it is doing,” he said during an interview.

Hon. Fatawu Yussif’s comments follow the government’s decision to rebrand the 24-Hour Economy Markets programme as District Economy Markets.

The government has explained that the change is intended to distinguish the market initiative from the broader 24-hour economy policy.

The NPP communications director’s criticism raises questions about the planning and implementation of the market programme, particularly the reported demolition of existing public infrastructure to make way for the proposed projects.
