The Assembly Member for Goripie electoral area, Mohammed Awal, has called on government authorities and relevant stakeholders to urgently intervene in addressing critical infrastructure deficits at the Goripie Seidya E/A Kindergarten.
In an exclusive interview, Mr. Awal painted a worrying picture of the conditions under which pupils, particularly those at the kindergarten level, are being taught.
He revealed that due to the lack of adequate classroom blocks and furniture, some KG pupils are forced to lie on the bare floor to write during lessons.
“Since the establishment of this school in 1986, we have not had the necessary classroom blocks. The children are forced to lie on their benches due to congestion and inadequate space,” he stated.
“We are in need of a KG block. The young ones deserve better structures that will help them learn in a safe and dignified environment,” he emphasized.
For his part, the Head Teacher of the School, Adam Inusah demanded urgent construction of a dedicated kindergarten block for the school, citing severe infrastructure deficits that continue to undermine effective teaching and learning.
He described the situation as a persistent structural gap that has adversely affected early childhood education delivery in the community.
He explained that the absence of proper classroom facilities has resulted in overcrowding, forcing some pupils to sit or lie on the bare floor during lessons.
This, he noted, complicates supervision and classroom management, particularly at the kindergarten level where structured engagement and controlled environments are critical for cognitive and social development.
A parent, Hanatu Yahaya has noted that pupils are forced to sit on the floor, which often leaves their uniforms dirty.
“The classrooms have fallen into disrepair. Many lack windows and doors, and there is no furniture. As a result, the pupils often sit on the floor, which causes their uniforms to get dirty,” she noted.
Another parent, Nurideen Ahmed, warned that the inadequate facilities are hampering effective teaching and learning, causing young pupils to loiter around instead of focusing on their studies.
“Teaching and learning are not effective under these conditions. We urgently need the government to construct a proper KG block, as the current classroom is in poor condition, causing the pupils to wander around,” he said.
