The newly elected Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Wa West Constituency, Alhaji Abdullah Seidu, has called on the party to review its internal arrangements regarding the distribution of campaign resources, arguing that constituency executives are often sidelined despite being responsible for managing the party’s affairs at the grassroots.

Speaking on Kangyiri Ansuma, a current affairs programme on Kangyiri Radio, Alhaji Seidu said constituency executives work throughout the electoral cycle to strengthen the party, mobilise members, and coordinate activities. However, he observed that when election campaigns begin, most financial and logistical resources are placed under the control of parliamentary candidates, leaving the executives with limited support to carry out their responsibilities.

According to him, the situation discourages constituency executives and undermines their ability to effectively coordinate campaign activities.

Recalling a conversation with former National Chairman of the NPP, Paul Afoko, Alhaji Seidu said he had long expressed concerns about the issue.

“When former NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko came here to campaign for the national chairmanship position, I told him that if certain practices are not put to an end in the NPP, all of us will abandon the chairmanship and contest to become parliamentary candidates.”

He explained that the statement was intended to draw attention to what he described as an imbalance within the party, where constituency executives bear the responsibility of running the party at the local level but have little control over campaign resources during elections.

Alhaji Seidu maintained that empowering constituency executives with adequate logistical and financial support would improve grassroots mobilisation, strengthen campaign coordination, and enhance the party’s electoral fortunes.

He therefore appealed to the NPP leadership to review the party’s internal resource allocation system to ensure constituency executives are adequately resourced and recognised for the critical role they play in building and sustaining the party at the constituency level.
