Former NPP Wa Central Constituency Chairman, Osuman Abdul Hamid, has explained that he stepped aside from contesting the constituency election due to the nature of his professional work, which restricts active participation in partisan politics.
According to him, he was initially preparing to seek re-election in the just ended constituency elections but, after certain developments relating to his work, he consulted with party elders and decided to give another person the opportunity to contest in his stead.
“I was preparing to lead the team for the election, but certain things came up en route to the election with regards to my work. In consultation with party elders, I gave the opportunity to a different person to contest in my stead,” he explained.
Mr. Osuman Abdul Hamid said his decision was not the result of pressure or force from anyone but was influenced by the professional restrictions associated with his work.
“I was not forced to step down. My political opponents are those who kept reporting me to my superiors that I am doing active politics against the work ethics, urging them to activate the law against me,” he stated.
He said the party subsequently considered the implications of his resignation from his professional position and concluded that remaining in his job was in the best interest of the NPP.
“As a party, we have thought through it and concluded that I should not resign from my work because if I do, the NPP will not have the opportunity to occupy that position. A different person from a different political party will be appointed there, so it is better to continue with my work,” he said.
