Women in Domawa in the Varempere Electoral Area of the Wa West District say the lack of potable water in the community has resulted in long queues at the only borehole, forcing many of them to spend hours fetching water before heading to their farms.
The women say the situation not only delays their farming activities but also affects their daily productivity and household responsibilities.
Speaking exclusively to Kangyiri Radio, a resident, Abdul Jalilu Jamila, said the absence of a borehole has made access to clean drinking water a constant struggle for women in the community.
According to her, the limited access to water often leads to disagreements among residents as they compete to fetch water.
“We don’t have a borehole. We struggle with each other at the water source, and because of that, we go to the farm late,” she said.
Ms. Jamila also lamented the lack of electricity in Domawa, explaining that women are compelled to travel to neighbouring communities to grind their food because the community has no electricity-powered grinding mill.
She noted that the situation places an additional burden on women, who spend extra time and money to access a service that should be readily available in their community.
