Prominent Islamic scholar and Deputy Upper West Regional Chief Imam of the Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah, Sheikh Ahmed Yakub, has called for the introduction of quizzes and competitions in technical and vocational skills to provide students with practical abilities an opportunity to showcase their talents.
Speaking about the impact of the Islamic Learning Memorization (ILM) quiz introduced by the Islamic Education Unit, Sheikh Ahmad called for a broader approach to assessing students, stressing that education should not be judged solely by performance in theoretical examinations.
According to him, students possess different abilities and talents that deserve recognition beyond academic performance.
He therefore advocated for the introduction of technical and vocational skills quizzes and competitions to identify and promote students with practical skills and abilities.
Sheikh Ahmad said such initiatives would help identify and nurture practical talents while giving students the recognition and rewards they deserve for their abilities.
He noted that promoting practical skills alongside academic education would encourage students to develop talents relevant to the world of work and contribute meaningfully to national development.
