The Assembly Member for the Sombo West Electoral Area in the Nadowli-Kaleo District has expressed concern over the inadequate number of boreholes in the community, describing the situation as a major challenge affecting access to safe drinking water.
Speaking in an interview, the Assembly Member said the electoral area has very few boreholes to serve residents, adding that most of the existing facilities have become old and are no longer functioning efficiently.
According to him, several of the boreholes have broken down after years of use, leaving many communities without dependable sources of potable water.
“The electoral area lacks boreholes. The few boreholes scattered across the area are aged, and many have broken down,” he said.
He noted that the frequent breakdown of the boreholes has placed a heavy financial burden on residents, who have had to contribute regularly towards repairs and maintenance.
“The people are tired of the maintenance cost,” the Assembly Member added, explaining that repeated repairs have become unsustainable for many households.
He appealed to the government, development partners, non-governmental organisations, and other stakeholders to support the community with the construction of new boreholes and the rehabilitation of existing ones.
The Assembly Member stressed that increasing access to functional boreholes would help ease the water challenges facing the electoral area, improve public health, and reduce the hardship residents endure in their daily search for safe drinking water.
He expressed hope that the concerns raised would receive prompt attention to ensure that communities within the Sombo West Electoral Area have reliable and sustainable access to potable water.
