The collapse of the Goripie community dam in 2024 has left residents of Goripie struggling to sustain their livelihoods, as both crop cultivation and livestock farming face severe disruption.
The dam, a crucial source of irrigation and water for animals, was destroyed by heavy rains, and nearly a year later, rehabilitation efforts have yet to begin.
Farmers along the dam area report that uncontrolled water flow has rendered their lands uncultivable, while livestock owners face challenges providing sufficient water for their animals.

Elders from the community met with the Upper West Regional Minister in May 2025 to request urgent support, but no action has been taken to restore the vital infrastructure.
With another rainy season approaching, residents fear worsening conditions and are appealing to government authorities, development partners, NGOs, and benevolent individuals to intervene promptly.
Residents emphasized that the restoration of the dam is critical not only for reviving agricultural activities but also for sustaining the livelihoods of one of the largest voter-populated communities in the Wa East Constituency.
