The Deputy Upper West Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and aspiring candidate for the same position, Alhassan Yusuf, says one of the major factors that contributed to the party’s electoral challenges was the disconnect between the party and government.
Speaking in an interview with Kangyiri Radio ahead of the NPP’s upcoming Upper West Regional Executive Elections, Mr. Yusuf said the party’s achievements while in government were unprecedented but were not effectively communicated to the public.
According to him, the lack of coordination between the government and the party created a gap that weakened the party’s ability to defend and promote its accomplishments.
“One thing that affected the NPP is that there was a gap between government and the party,” he said.
Mr. Yusuf argued that the NPP’s record in government under the Fourth Republic remains unmatched, insisting that the party implemented numerous development initiatives across the country.
“What the NPP did in this Fourth Republic is unmatched. However, our opponents’ propaganda overshadowed what we did,” he stated.
He stressed the need for the party to strengthen communication between government and its grassroots structures, saying a well-coordinated party machinery is essential to effectively project government achievements and counter misinformation.
Mr. Yusuf made the remarks as he outlined his vision for the deputy regional secretary position, expressing confidence that a stronger party structure would better position the NPP for future electoral success in the Upper West Region.
