Beneficiaries of the National Apprenticeship Programme have been cautioned against fraudsters who may attempt to exploit the distribution of equipment and other interventions under the programme.

Mr. Joseph Banye, the Upper West Regional National Apprenticeship Program speaking on the implementation of the programme, said some scammers had been contacting beneficiaries and demanding money in exchange for equipment or other forms of assistance.

He stressed that officials of the National Apprenticeship Programme, Members of Parliament, District Chief Executives or persons working directly with them would not call beneficiaries to demand payments into personal mobile money accounts.

He therefore urged apprentices and master craft persons to verify suspicious calls and report any fraudulent requests through the appropriate channels.

“We will not take such a move by calling you. We have people that we work with to reach out to you,” he said.

Mr. Banye said the training of apprentices was progressing smoothly, with beneficiaries and their master craft persons adapting well to the programme.

“Training has been very smooth. Apprentices are coping and their masters are coping so well,” he said.

He acknowledged that some stipends and other outstanding obligations were still being addressed but said the programme had made significant progress since its implementation.

According to him, the distribution of equipment would further strengthen the training process by giving apprentices access to the tools they need to develop practical skills and eventually become self-reliant.

He expressed the hope that the equipment would improve skills acquisition and knowledge transfer between master craft persons and apprentices.
