The Overlord of the Waala Traditional Council, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo has criticised what he describes as a recurring trend in the government’s handling of cabinet-level appointments involving the Upper West Region.
He said the situation should not be viewed as an isolated incident, arguing that it reflects a broader pattern in the way the region has been treated when it comes to appointments to key positions in government.
His comments follow President John Dramani Mahama’s second reshuffle of ministers of state, in which the Wa Central Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, was moved from the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Job Creation to serve as Minister of State in charge of Special Initiatives.
“What has happened is not an isolated case; it is the trend of this administration’s handling of appointments for the region in terms of a cabinet position,” the Chief said.
His comments have renewed discussions about the Upper West Region’s representation in government and concerns over whether the region is receiving adequate consideration in the appointment of individuals to senior government positions.
