The Upper West Regional Police Command has secured a 20-year prison sentence for a 47-year-old man, Kwame Ti-Zaaekuu, after he was convicted by the Lawra Circuit Court for incest and threat of death.
The conviction followed investigations and prosecution by the Lawra District Police after a complaint was lodged against the convict.
According to the Police, investigations established that the convict had sexually abused his 17-year-old biological daughter, a Junior High School student, over an extended period. The Police said the convict also threatened to kill the victim if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
In a press release signed by the Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr. Francis Yiribaare, the Command said the successful prosecution followed a thorough investigation into the case.
“On Friday, July 24, 2026, after a full trial, the Lawra Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Stanley Adjei, found the accused guilty of the offences of incest and threat of death,” the statement said.
The court sentenced Ti-Zaaekuu to 20 years imprisonment for incest and 10 years imprisonment for threat of death, with both sentences to run concurrently in hard labour.
The court also directed the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide counselling and psychosocial support to the survivor.
The Police Command commended the investigators and prosecutor for their professionalism and efforts, which contributed to the successful conviction.
“The Upper West Regional Police Command commends the professionalism of the investigators and prosecutor whose efforts led to the successful conviction,” the statement said.
The Command further urged members of the public to promptly report cases of sexual and domestic abuse to the Police for appropriate action.
