Farmers in Bobor in the Nadowli-Kaleo District have expressed concern over the lack of ready markets for their agricultural produce, warning that the situation could discourage them from farming in the next farming season.
In an interview with Kangyiri 99.1 FM, the residents said access to reliable markets would determine whether they could continue farming on a larger scale, stressing that the inability to sell their produce could leave them with little motivation to invest in another farming season.
“We will be able to farm in the next season if we get a ready market for our farm produce. But if we are unable to sell our farm produce, we will not be motivated to farm again,” the residents said.
They disclosed that some farmers were considering reducing the sizes of their farms to one acre or half an acre, mainly to produce enough food to feed their families rather than cultivate on a larger scale for commercial purposes.
The residents are therefore calling on the government and relevant agricultural stakeholders to help establish reliable market opportunities for farmers to sell their produce and sustain their livelihoods.
