The Wa Central Prison, under the Upper West Regional Command of the Ghana Prisons Service and the leadership of DDP Alhaji Ousman Tasembedo, Esq., is set to organise a talent show and creative arts programme dubbed “Talents Behind Bars” for inmates of the facility.
The programme is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 13th September 2026, and will provide inmates with an opportunity to showcase their talents and creative abilities.
Speaking on Kangyiri Ansuma on Kangyiri Radio, the Public Relations Officer of the Wa Central Prison Command, Joseph Kpiriko, said the initiative was aimed at creating an avenue for inmates to demonstrate their talents while promoting their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
“There is no talent out there that is not in the prison. There are many hidden talents and potentials in the prison,” he said.
According to him, the programme is significant because it will be the first time such a talent and creative arts programme is being organised at the Wa Central Prison.
He explained that inmates possess various talents and abilities which deserve to be identified, developed and given an opportunity to be exhibited.
“The program will alleviate boredom. It also will help the inmates showcase their skills to the public. They have to put their talents into practice to enable them integrate well into the society after their sentence,” the PRO added.
Mr. Kpiriko said the initiative forms part of efforts to create a positive environment within the prison and encourage inmates to develop their skills and abilities while serving their sentences.
He added that showcasing the talents of inmates would also help change negative perceptions about persons in prison by highlighting their creative potential and capabilities.
The “Talents Behind Bars” programme is expected to feature various forms of creative expression, providing inmates with a platform to entertain, inspire and demonstrate their abilities to invited guests and members of the prison community.
