The newly elected Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Wa West Constituency, Alhaji Abdullah Seidu, has criticised what he described as the exclusion of constituency executives from the distribution of party resources, saying such practices undermine the role of grassroots leadership.
Speaking on Kangyiri Ansuma, a current affairs programme on Kangyiri Radio, Alhaji Seidu cited the distribution of 13 tricycles allocated to the constituency as an example of how constituency executives are sometimes sidelined.
According to him, despite serving as the constituency chairman, he was neither consulted nor given the opportunity to participate in the distribution exercise.
“As the constituency chairman, I was not consulted nor given the courtesy of being involved in the distribution of the 13 tricycles that were allocated to the constituency. The tricycles were instead handed over to the parliamentary candidate, who distributed them without involving the constituency executives,” he said.
Alhaji Seidu said the incident reflected a broader challenge within the party, where parliamentary candidates are often given greater prominence than the executives responsible for managing the party’s affairs at the constituency level.
He noted that constituency executives work year-round to keep the party active, mobilise members, and maintain its structures, particularly when the party is in opposition.
“It is sometimes painful to hold the party together in opposition, only for the party to consider the parliamentary candidate more important than the constituency executives.”
The Wa West NPP Chairman urged the party’s leadership to strengthen collaboration between parliamentary candidates and constituency executives, arguing that both groups have complementary roles in building a united and effective party.
He further appealed for greater consultation and inclusion of constituency executives in the management and distribution of party resources, stressing that recognising their contributions would enhance unity, improve grassroots mobilisation, and strengthen the NPP’s organisational structures ahead of future elections.
