Hon. Boakye Agyarko, a National Chairman aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Minister of Energy, has described the party as being at a defining moment in its political history, arguing that it requires courageous and visionary leadership to reposition itself ahead of future electoral contests.

Speaking on Kangyiri Radio during his campaign tour of the Upper West Region, Boakye Agyarko said recent developments in the country’s political landscape indicate that some Ghanaians are beginning to question whether the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) can fulfil the expectations that brought it to power.

According to him, this emerging public sentiment presents an opportunity for the NPP to reconnect with the electorate and rebuild confidence in the party.

“There is the beginning of doubt as to whether the NDC can take us to the destination they promised. That in itself is the beginning of our victory. It allows us to punch in and do what we need to do,” he stated.

The chairman hopeful explained that his decision to contest for the party’s highest administrative office is driven by what he described as the unique challenges confronting the NPP following its recent electoral setbacks.

Responding to a question on why he is seeking the position of National Chairman, he said the party is standing at a critical crossroads and needs decisive leadership to navigate the difficult period ahead.

“At this point in the party’s history, I believe the party is at a unique crossroads. Some will even say we face an existential threat,” he remarked.

He cautioned party members against assuming that the NPP’s long-standing political tradition guarantees its continued success, stressing that political relevance must be earned through hard work, unity and effective organisation.

“For a long time, people have assumed that our tradition is immortal and that we will live forever. No,” he said, suggesting that the party must undertake deliberate reforms to remain competitive.

His visit to the Upper West Region forms part of his nationwide campaign to engage delegates and grassroots members as he seeks their mandate to lead the NPP’s national executive.

His campaign has focused on rebuilding party structures, restoring confidence among members and positioning the party for future electoral victories.

Boakye Agyarko used the opportunity to outline his vision for the party while appealing to members to support leadership that, in his view, can unite the NPP and strengthen its prospects in the years ahead.
