Former Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Hafiz Bin Salih, has raised concerns about the possible disenfranchisement of grassroots party members when individuals with financial resources are prioritised over long-standing party activists in leadership contests.
In his assessment of the NPP’s internal reorganisation, Hon. Hafiz argued that dedicated party members who have sacrificed during difficult periods could become discouraged if their contributions are overlooked in favour of candidates with greater financial capacity.
“Dedicated organisers who have sacrificed for years feel alienated when sidelined by affluent newcomers who lack a history of local service,” he stated.
He said such a trend could create a sense of alienation among grassroots members and weaken their connection to the party.
He therefore urged delegates to consider the history of candidates, their contributions to the party and their commitment during challenging periods before electing them to executive positions.
“True leadership is measured by the ability to inspire people to willingly invest their time, energy, and personal resources into the party’s vision,” Hon. Hafiz said.
According to him, rebuilding the NPP requires a leadership structure that recognises sacrifice, loyalty and consistent grassroots engagement.
