Former Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Hafiz Bin Salih, has cautioned against the increasing influence of wealth in determining who occupies leadership positions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, allowing financial capacity to become the primary consideration in internal party elections could gradually undermine the party’s grassroots foundation.
“When wealth becomes the primary yardstick for choosing our executives, the party itself becomes poorer,” he stated in a Facebook post.
Hon. Hafiz believes that while financial resources may be important in political organisation, they should not overshadow qualities such as loyalty, competence, sacrifice and commitment.
“When financial capability becomes the sole determinant for entry into leadership, the party compromises its collective future,” he said.
He has therefore called on delegates and other stakeholders to make leadership choices based on merit and the long-term interests of the party.
He said the NPP must avoid a transactional political culture and instead strengthen a system that rewards genuine commitment and service.
