The contest for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Upper West Regional Chairmanship has taken shape, with two businessmen set to battle for the party’s top regional position following the close of nominations for the upcoming regional executive elections.

Incumbent Regional Chairman Abdul-Aziz Abdul Rahman will seek a fresh mandate against the incumbent Regional Organizer, Alhassan Kanton Alaska Braimah Nala, in what is expected to be one of the keenly contested races.

Abdul-Aziz Abdul Rahman assumed the regional chairmanship following the demise of the late Regional Chairman, Kangbere. Prior to his elevation, he served as the party’s First Regional Vice Chairman and has since led the affairs of the party in the Upper West Region.

The First Vice Chairperson position has attracted three aspirants: Majeed Limann, Thaddeus Arlam Aasoglenang, and former Wa Central Constituency Chairman Alhaji Kamara Karim Tankari.

For the Second Vice Chairperson position, Philip Yaw Braimah will contest Wontina Bamatu, the incumbent Wa East Constituency Communications Officer.

The race for Regional Secretary will feature incumbent Tanko Daniel Dawda, Agape Kanyiri Damuah, and Salia Dawuda Kaleo.
Two candidates, Yussif Alhassan and Sulemani Benin, are contesting for the Assistant Regional Secretary position.

Incumbent Regional Treasurer Alhassan Suleman will face James Kpir-Taatey Saatiri for the treasurer position.

The Regional Organizer race has attracted four aspirants: Seidu Issahaku Sulemana, former Regional Organizer Mustapha Ibrahim Dimah, incumbent Regional Youth Organizer Mohammed Saana Hamidu, and Amadu Adama.

For the position of Regional Communications Director, incumbent Ahmed Nana Sadat will face former Communications Director Bukari Ali.

Four aspirants are contesting for the Regional Youth Organizer position. They are Dodoo Yussif Sadat, Haki Insah, Suleman Yahaya, and Amidu Reedwan.

The Regional Women’s Organizer contest is expected to renew a closely fought rivalry between incumbent Dery Nancy Anyuo and Minata Mumuni. During the previous regional executive elections, the two candidates tied after polling an equal number of votes.

Following consultations within the party, Dery Nancy Anyuo was subsequently appointed to the position by consensus.

For the Regional Nasara Coordinator position, incumbent Mohammed Muniru Ali will battle Nuhu Abdul-Jalilu.

The successful filing of nominations officially sets the stage for the NPP Upper West Regional Executive Elections, where delegates will elect a new team of officers to steer the affairs of the party in the region as it prepares for future electoral contests.
