Several people have sustained injuries and two motorbikes have been burnt following a violent clash between rival youth groups in Wa, the Upper West Regional capital.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, June 8, 2026, is believed to have stemmed from a dispute that began at a nightclub on Sunday night involving members of the two groups.
According to sources, tensions escalated in the early hours of Monday when suspected members of one of the groups allegedly stormed Nima, a youth camp in the Jengbeyiri suburb of Wa, at about 3 a.m.
During the attack, property belonging to an individual said to be a leader of the rival group was reportedly vandalized.
The situation reportedly worsened later in the day when two young men from Kambali rode into Nima Camp on separate motorbikes. Witnesses say the pair were attacked by some youth wielding cutlasses, leaving them with various injuries.
The two motorbikes were subsequently set ablaze and burnt beyond recognition during the confrontation.
Several other individuals are also reported to have sustained cutlass wounds and varying degrees of injuries. The injured persons are currently receiving medical treatment at the Upper West Regional Hospital.
Security personnel, including the police, military and national security, have since been deployed to the area to restore calm and prevent further disturbances.
Investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
The Upper West Regional Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the matter at the time of filing this report.
