A total of 391 children screened in Guli and surrounding communities in the Wa Municipality under a free eye  screening exercise organized by Blissful Sight for Kids in collaboration with the Department of Community Development has revealed that only 57 children had normal eye conditions.

The exercise was conducted as part of efforts to promote early detection and treatment of eye-related conditions among children.

The initiative, under the Blissful Sight for Kids project, forms part of a partnership between Bliss Eye Care and the Department of Community Development to support child health and welfare.

The Acting Upper West Regional Director of the Department of Community Development, Nafisa Yahya, said the collaboration reflects the department’s mandate to work with state and non-state institutions to improve health, education, and social wellbeing.

She explained that the screening was also linked to the department’s Child Protection Programme, which focuses on both preventive and responsive interventions aimed at safeguarding children from various vulnerabilities.

Madam Yahya added that beyond protecting children’s rights, the department continues to engage children on their responsibilities to help nurture disciplined and responsible citizens.
